The Smart ForTwo has lost its appeal. Then again, the diminutive city car from Daimler never had the broad appeal in the United States it has long enjoyed in Europe.

Inside, the Fortwo features a mix of fabric and leather in contrasting colors which is further enhanced by the decorative brown seams on the seats. The kneepad and instrument panel have a leather look, while the 3-spoke sports steering wheel is covered with leather, as is the gear knob. Trim parts in matt silver round off the changes.

2010 The Smart Fortwo Mini-Cars

Introduced to the US market in January 2008 and marketed by the Penske Group, Daimler had high hopes that its Smart car would be well received in the United States with gas prices north of $4.00 a gallon. For a brief time it did, with dealers selling most of the cars on their lots quickly.

The elderly are much more sensitive to cold temperatures than the population at large, but heated seats -- described in the smart fortwo brochure as "one of the greatest automotive inventions ever" -- are standard in these cars.

The smart fortwo will be a head-turner in the USA for years to come, ensuring that anyone who wants to know that an elderly driver is approaching will see the driver well in advance of when that driver will see him or her.
